Our Affirmations of Faith
At Newsong Los Angeles, we affirm...
...the centrality of the word of God.
(2 Tim 3:16; 1 Thess 2:13)
We believe the Bible is the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct. The dynamic, transforming power of the word of God directs the church and the life of each Christian. Our reliance on Scripture directs us toward honoring the dignity of all peoples and pursuing righteousness and justice in our world.
...the necessity of the new birth.
(John 3:3-6; 2 Cor 5:17)
New birth in Christ means committing ourselves to God and receiving forgiveness, acceptance, and eternal life. Being alive in Christ, we experience love and righteousness, joy and peace. New birth is only a beginning. Growing in Christ is a lifelong process of transformation for both individuals and communities of believers, through whom God transforms the world.
...a commitment to the whole mission of the Church.
(Acts 1:8-9; 2 Cor 5:18)
We are committed to a faith which carries out God’s mission to the world. God‘s mission includes evangelism, spiritual formation, and ministries of compassion, mercy, and justice. Our model for mission is the life and ministry of Jesus who called people to repentance and demonstrated a deep commitment to the poor and marginalized.
...the Church as a fellowship of believers.
(Acts 2:42-47; Gal 3:28)
As a church, we grow, worship, and serve as a community through meaningful relationships. We pursue fellowship through the sacraments of Communion and Baptism, and through regular gatherings with our fellow believers. All Christ followers, regardless of age, race, or gender, share in the ministry of the church and are called to support, encourage, and spur one another, in unity, toward God and God’s mission.
...a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.
(John 14:26; Gal 5:22-23)
We hold to a Trinitarian understanding of one God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that the Holy Spirit dwells with us, turning us toward Christ and empowering us to serve, to grow in embodied faith, and to participate in God’s work in the world.
...and the reality of freedom in Christ.
(Gal 5:1; 2 Cor 3:17)
Freedom is a gift of God in Christ. We are set free from the power of those things that on their own tend to divide. United in Christ, we offer freedom to one another to differ on issues of belief or practice where the biblical and historical record seems to allow for a variety of interpretations of the will and purposes of God. We seek to focus on what unites us as followers of Christ, rather than on what divides us.

The Apostles' Creed
We believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
